Spinario Cat - 2024
Acrylic and marker on canvas
180 x 100 cm
A homage to the famous Spinario statue. The painting fixes the ancient issue 'easily', the cat is rejoicing and showing the viewer that he solved his own problem. By removing the thorn (held in his left paw) and ruining the classic motive his injury also injures the canvas as the red dot on his lifted paw is a hole poked in the canvas. The decision of painting a cat instead of a boy is in relation to pop culture in which animals, with many cats in particular, are personified in order to teach us children valuable lessons - problem solving. Aesthetically inspired by the paintings and drwaings of American artist Joice Pensato, who shares a love for humor and outdated scary pop figures.
