Tripod Bombing - 2023
Acrylic and marker on canvas
40 x 100 cm
The plane is partly erased (or hidden by a cloud). The white paint is an aesthetical homage to graffiti erasure. In this context the crime is bigger, an airstrike being “erased”. In many instances of war attacks happen with nobody claiming responsibility for and have been denied by the responsible party. In the painting, the pending damage is more visible than the plane - three missiles have been dropped. The composition is inspired by the aquatic animal - tripod fish. Besides the inspiring fish, the tripod is also well known as photography accessory - a tool used for capturing and documenting the truth. As photography is more common than ever it is also less trustworthy due to recent technological advances. I decided to install this painting unconventionally high due to the nature of the subject but also in a site-specific manner so it seems as if it is flying above the wall. The painting blends with the fluorescent light, for composition reasons and to expose and literally shed light.
