It’s Coming Home - 2024

Acrylic, charcoal, chalk and pumice on linen

90 x 60 cm

Same as in my painting "Agony", I continued the study of abstracting the sky, this time with painting straight out of the tube on top of the painting itself, relating to the painting as a sculpture. This painting is focused on colour and composition. The work is named after the English football song was painted during the 2024 Euro competition. In the painting the protagonist footballer/clown/rabbit is in a state between dynamic and static. Initially he was chasing another character but I decided on him kicking a football/heart. This was my first time painting on linen. I tried to conquer my initial fear of working on a new and expensive fabric by giving the fabric space and respect, exhibiting it and not trying to fight its new qualities. I also painted in a very light-hearted and "unprofessional" manner to counter its glory.
