Circus in Prague - 2024
Acrylic, chalk and charcoal on canvas
100 x 130 cm
Photo: Alma Ben-David
The painting contains a saltire of two dolphins, reminiscent of my father's tattoo. He claims that one is me and the other is my younger brother. The saltires colours are a reversed Scottish flag, where I lived recently for a semester. My brother, father and I have been scuba diving together for years and share our love for the ocean. Apparent also in my other works. The dolphins look a lot like how I usually draw our family's dog. In the top half is a personified circus-castle mesh symbolising my house growing up. The painting as a whole serves as a sort of family crest. The source of inspiration for the painting was a family vacation in Prague.
