Speed - 2022
Rubber; Marker, pen and oil on paper
45 x 50 cm

The drawing was done before I found the readymade run over traffic cone. I drew greyhound dogs racing and a week later while wandering around Glasgow I found the yellow cone.
As a big fan of colour, readymade objects, brut and vandalism I decided to take it. Later, when inspected further, I recognised the cone and everything clicked together and came to life. The artwork is named "Speed" due to the race happening in the drawing and the cone most likely being run over several times instead of maintaining order in traffic.
The cone motif has been present in my practice for a year due to a research I conducted. I noticed that in the UK and especially in Scotland there is an immense cone culture with communal jokes surrounding putting things on cones and cones on things etc. I took hundreds of photos of unique cones.
Like Cattelan's yellow banana this yellow cone is also a readymade Memento Mori.
