Initially a monkey, the drawing turned out to look more like the street cats that hang out by the mentioned bins. Impossible to see from this angle, the drawing is more of a sculpture due to the tray's depth. Another major reason for depicting animals in my works is my lack of memory of anatomy. I work fast and out of memory, resulting in each viewer seeing and experiencing the painting in a different manner. Beneath, a cast aluminum Uzi gun sculpture, manufactured for the IDF, used originally for training new recruits. I purchased it from Bedouins. The chosen materials are human related and are either used or decaying. Harry is depicted in a soldier's uniform and has a halo above him. I had to carry a similar fake gun for a while during mandatory training. The palm tree, a regional symbol is disabled. The installation's aesthetic is that of a memorial monument to a person or in this case our collective past. It is the embodiment of our present and future, as an art piece. On my second year of my BFA studies, I did a series of paintings on different mediums that were all portraits of worn-out toys which I have owned or found. All of the paintings were engraved on a base layer of colour as a way to bring drawing line qualities into painting. In 'Meiner Süßen Biene', I painted on a found frame, as a way to recycle and reuse, like I did with the figurine. Inspired by arte povera, which was very impactful on the Israeli art scene back in the day, and by the history of portraits of the rough and bizarre. Like with many of the humans portrayed in art history, the toys, full of personality and history, have been given up on and deserve to be heard, shown and immortalized. This specific Maya Bee figurine belonged to my mother since childhood. No Plaice Like Home takes on the question of belonging, not as something secure or sentimental, but as a shifting state, full of contradictions. Parnas’s sculptures and assemblages thrive on incongruity. A chair emblazoned with the English flag becomes neither patriotic emblem nor discarded rubbish but an uneasy hybrid of both. It hovers between joke and provocation, confronting viewers with how symbols can lose their authority when stripped of context and reimagined as awkward artefacts. Elsewhere, animal forms appear softened, even made absurd. A fish, usually the image of prey, is depicted unclear, camouflaged and menacing. A bear, rendered in loose and bulbous form, becomes needy rather than fearsome. By subverting the natural order, Parnas suggests that strength and weakness are never stable categories; they are contingent, exchangeable, bound up with play and perception. What makes the exhibition compelling is its refusal to settle into one mood. Comedy coexists with unease, tenderness with critique. In this exhibition, the cute and clean characters are pulled out of their fantasy worlds and transferred into a physical, cluttered, and chaotic reality. The exhibition’s title, Touch Grass, refers to a contemporary internet expression that means a call to leave the virtual world and reconnect with physical reality. The phrase, often used in a critical context, is directed at those who seem “lost” in the digital space – those who spend too many hours in front of a screen, disconnected from the world outside. In the case of the exhibition, this call is reversed: the encounter with "the grass" is not a return to a natural and clean place, but an entry into a dirty and complex physical reality, where even the material itself is processed, plastic, and sometimes corrupted. At first glance, visitors encounter monochromatic two-dimensional works, minimalist sketches that distill the characters into a primary and almost pale presence. However, moving to the next space reveals a brightly lit and colourful installation, where the characters are reintroduced to their virtual world through the use of light and vibrant colours. A central element of the exhibition is the incorporation of ready-made elements from the space itself. Parnas makes use of materials such as plexiglass panels, wood planks, cardboard, and other industrial items that were part of the location, turning them into an integral part of the works. This creates a sense of ongoing dialogue between the history of the space, analog aesthetics, and the digital world from which the characters emerged. The viewpoint of the space is sealed with a unique structure: a closed opening, illuminated from within, made of plexiglass wrapped in blue plastic. This work is about anxiety and waiting, being in the moment. The candles are out, with digital advertisement like icons. The roses are still alive but with borrowed time as they have been picked- they are the same colour as the character for these reasons and also resemble his eyes. The bottom of the painting is a black ledge/ line, like an unknown abyss beneath but also as a hommage to the Trompe-l'œil common in the Vanitas traditional painting. The bag is manufactured by a construction supply store with their logo and details visible on the sides. I believe and care about sustainability and animal rights and I am bringing awareness to the issue in ways I find amusing. Hamtaro, an anthropomorphized hamster, taught us how to behave while growing up, as part of the rapidly changing digital culture. While watching him on TV we simultaneously drifted away from our nature and nature in general, relating to Walter Benjamin's theory about the conflict of culture and nature. This work exists in the middle ground between sculpture and painting, a quality I often try to reach in my works. After I finished the painting, I noticed it shares the same colours and is slightly resemblant of the Palestinian flag. During the time I painted this work, it became illegal to show the flag in Israel and people started showing resemblant icons (watermelons for example). I now understand that this event triggered me to create this work. The work is installed on the floor as spiders are often floor critters and because of the used cardboard's hierarchy material-wise. The red dabs are lent from the clown noses and laser targets, popular in my other works in that period and are influenced by real spiders. After I finished the painting, I noticed it shares the same colours and is slightly resemblant of the Palestinian flag. During the time I painted this work, it became illegal to show the flag in Israel and people started showing resemblant icons (watermelons for example). I now understand that this event triggered me to create this work. The work is installed on the floor as spiders are often floor critters and because of the used cardboard's hierarchy material-wise. The red dabs are lent from the clown noses and laser targets, popular in my other works in that period and are influenced by real spiders. The white paint is an aesthetical homage to graffiti erasure. In this context the crime is bigger, an airstrike being “erased”. In many instances of war attacks happen with nobody claiming responsibility for and have been denied by the responsible party. In the painting, the pending damage is more visible than the plane - three missiles have been dropped. The composition is inspired by the aquatic animal - tripod fish. Besides the inspiring fish, the tripod is also well known as photography accessory - a tool used for capturing and documenting the truth. As photography is more common than ever it is also less trustworthy due to recent technological advances. I decided to install this painting unconventionally high due to the nature of the subject but also in a site-specific manner so it seems as if it is flying above the wall. During my time in Glasgow, I became a bit sick and found myself with no crowd to entertain except myself, I felt even more of an outsider and was very self conscious and "In my head"; different from everybody else but also in a normal way as everybody feels like this at times, and each person is an island - the same sensation that makes genuine art "good" - relatable yet unique. Feeling this way while eating outdoors led me to this Hopper homage painting. I drew greyhound dogs racing and a week later while wandering around Glasgow I found the yellow cone. As a big fan of colour, readymade objects, brut and vandalism I decided to take it. Later, when inspected further, I recognised the cone and everything clicked together and came to life. The artwork is named "Speed" due to the race happening in the drawing and the cone most likely being run over several times instead of maintaining order in traffic. The cone motif has been present in my practice for a year due to a research I conducted. I noticed that in the UK and especially in Scotland there is an immense cone culture with communal jokes surrounding putting things on cones and cones on things etc. I took hundreds of photos of unique cones. The exhibition included 39 artists and traveled across the country during Israel’s major protests against the government and in support of human rights. Each artist was required to choose a specific freedom to represent. I chose freedom of conscience, because now one else did. A short while later, the war began. I used my freedom of conscience to decide not to take part and to decline reserve military duty. What began as a symbolic gesture within an exhibition became a personal life changing decision. The fists were printed on 200 x 800 cm banners. To exhibit the work, a team, including myself, secretly produced and installed the banners, first on street lights and later along the Ayalon Highway, one of Israel’s main highways. The work is currently on display at Abraham Hostel, Tel Aviv.
